Shikanji is a lemon-based drink that originated from the northern part of India, made in most households during summer. Shikanji is distinct from lemonade and often contains other ingredients such as black salt, roasted cumin powder, black pepper powder, chaat masala etc. you can find many varieties of the shikanji.
It is a sweet and salty lemony drink with hints of cumin. It is an Indian spiced version of lemonade which is a staple during the summer months. Lemon juice is mixed with masala, sugar, mint leaves and is then topped with water or soda. Black salt and roasted cumin powder give this drink an extra punch. It is a rejuvenating and rehydrating drink that gives you instant energy and relief from the heat. Shikanji is one of the best thirst quenchers on hot summer days. This spicy, lemony coolant is excellent for your digestion, especially during the hot summer months.

Ingredients
  

  • ¼ cup Lemon juice
  • â…“ cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Chilled Water
  • ¾ tsp Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Black Salt
  • 300 ml Soda water
  • 10-12 Mint Leaves
  • 10-15 Ice cubes

Instructions
 

  • Take a blender jar, add lemon juice, black salt, water, roasted cumin powder and sugar (The amount of sugar can be decreased or increased as per your taste). Blend it for 1-2 minutes or till all the ingredients are incorporated well.
  • Pour the shikanji base into serving glasses along with ice, lemon slices and mint leaves. Top it up with soda water and stir it well with a spoon (Soda water is optional; you can prepare this drink without soda water).
  • Serve it chilled.
