Anjeer and Dates Modak is a sugar-free dry fruit modak made of anjeer (dried figs), dates and other dry fruits. It's a guilt-free modak shaped dessert loaded with the goodness of dried fruits. This modak is as unique as Lord Ganesha himself. This simple, easy yet delicious modak recipe is made with dry fruits. This recipe has no extra added sugar; the sweetness is derived from dates, anjeer and raisins.
Modak is considered to be the favourite sweet of the Hindu deity, Lord Ganesha. It is also known as Kudumu, kadubu, modakam or kozhukattai in regional languages; these are sweet stuffed dumplings offered to Lord Ganesha as prasad / Naivedyam during Ganesh Chaturthi puja.
Traditionally, the sweet filling inside a modak consists of freshly grated coconut, poppy seeds and jaggery, while the outer soft shell is made from rice flour dough. It is steamed first, then served for the bhog with a dollop of ghee.
There are many variations of making modaks, like wheat flour modak, kyoya modak, fried modak, etc.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Seedless Dates (Khajoor) , chopped
  • ½ cup Anjeer (dried figs) , chopped
  • ¼ cup Almonds
  • ¼ cup Cashew Nuts
  • 2 tbsp Pistachios
  • 2 tbsp Raisins
  • 2 tbsps, heaped Desiccated Coconut
  • 2 tbsp Poppy seeds (Khas Khas)
  • ½ tsp Cardamom powder
  • Ghee For greasing

Instructions
 

  • Add almonds, cashews, pistachios and raisins into a food processor or a blender. Blend them to a coarse powder.
  • Add chopped dried figs, desiccated coconut and chopped seedless dates and blend them together with the coarse mixture of dry fruits until they blend nicely and form like a dough.
  • Transfer the mixture to a plate and add poppy seeds and green cardamom powder. Mix them well with a hand or a spatula until they combine well.
  • Grease a modak mould with ghee. Take a portion of the mixture, stuff it into a modak mould, gently press the mixture and remove the excess mixture. Gently demould the anjeer modak.
  • Arrange the Anjeer and Dates Modaks on a serving plate. Anjeer and Dates modak are ready for the bhog prashad.
